Comprehensive Autism Evaluations

Overview

A Comprehensive Autism Evaluation examines social communication, behavior patterns, sensory experiences, and developmental history to determine whether an individual may be on the autism spectrum. Gold-standard tools, careful observation, and in-depth interviews are usedto develop a nuanced understanding of functioning. The evaluation is designed to be structured, respectful, and appropriately tailored to the person’s developmental level.

Purpose

Families or adults often seek this type of evaluation when there are concerns about social differences, sensory sensitivities, repetitive behaviors, intense interests, or difficulty with change. Some individuals reach adolescence or adulthood without a prior diagnosis yet having long felt different in social situations or easily overwhelmed by sensory input. An accurate diagnosis can bring clarity, self-understanding, and access to targeted supports at home, school, work, and in the community.

Our Approach

At Segel Psychological Center, clinicians evaluate autism from early childhood through adulthood, including complex presentations and co-occurring conditions. One psychologist has authored a resource on social skills training for adolescents with autism, reflecting a strong commitment to developmentally appropriate, evidence-based care. The team takes time to listen, explains results in everyday language, and offers practical recommendations that fit real-world needs.
