Forensic Neuropsychological Evaluations
Overview
A Forensic Neuropsychological Evaluation examines cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning in the context of a specific legal question. It applies expertise in brain–behavior relationships to issues such as possible brain injury, capacity, competency, or functional impairment. The evaluation integrates test data with medical records, history, and collateral information.
Purpose
These evaluations are often requested in criminal and civil matters involving traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, medical complications, toxic exposure, or other neurological conditions. They help attorneys, courts, and insurers understand whether and how a condition is affecting thinking and day-to-day functioning. Conclusions are then linked directly to the legal issues being considered.
